    Vintage Cosmetics Advertisements

My friend Kate is over from Australia at the moment and she recently popped in to Vinmag in Soho to  pick up some vintage magazines to frame. I had a leaf through them and found a load of beautiful and at times, hilarious, cosmetics advertisements and thought it might be nice to share them here on the blog. These ads are from ‘Picturegoer’ magazine editiones published in 1956 & 1957. Incredible Tampax Ad I have no words for this Ryvita ad…

BoPeeps – Cute, Ethical and Cheeky Lingerie!

Gone are the days of compromising comfort in the name of pretty knickers thanks to the unashamedly flirty and undeniably comfy BoPeeps knickers and bras. Already featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine, Zest, the Vogue Blog and Stylist (to name a few) BoPeeps is an underwear brand to keep your eye on! I’ve been putting the Butterfly Bra and Heart Shaped Knickers through their paces and I’m happy to report that the rumours are true – these pieces are uber comfortable and flattering to my shape – even my bum is a fan as the cut of the knickers gives it that little extra perk up! I have the set in ‘Nude’…

Lipstick I Love: Rocking Red by Smooch Cosmetics

A girl can never have too many red lipsticks and I’m no exception. The latest member of my red lippie clan comes in the shape of this pin-up-perfect red from Smooch Cosmetics. Richly pigmented and vibrant with a glossy finish, *Rocking Red is one of those shades that I think would suit pretty much every skin tone. After a few hours of wear, the lipstick sort of stains the lips, leaving them looking lovely and ‘bitten’ but the gloss factor only sticks around for a short while. The formula is quite ‘wet’ so my only criticism of the lipstick is that it does tend to bleed and feather a little…

Knitting, Afternoon Tea and Vintage Beauties – Atrixo Event

I attended an AMAZING event last week in celebration of Atrixo hand creams.  Hosted by the beautiful Vintage Patisserie ladies and complete with a knitting class headed by the seriously talented Catherine Hirst, this gorgeous event introduced me to a cult classic product that I hadn’t tried before, despite the fact it has been a handbag staple for over 50 years! Bloggers were treated to a delicious afternoon tea while learning the ins and outs of basic knitting techniques and were given stunning retro makeovers by the Vintage Patisserie girls. It was all a bit of a treat really! With prices starting at around £2, you can find Atrixo products at Boots,…

    Hair Adventures: Practising Pincurls

Being a lazy vintage enthusiast can be tricky, so perfecting something as time consuming (and sometimes as difficult) as pincurls is near impossible for me. I’m fine when it comes to curling the front of my hair into snail-like swirls but reaching around to do the back hurts my arms and my brain so I enlisted my willing flatmate Anna  to play guinea pig for me. Luckily, Anna likes having her hair played with so she was happy to sit for half an hour while I twirled her hair into somewhat imperfect little rolls. The Curl Commandments Pincurling towel-dried hair gives the best results as the curl is easier to manipulate and…
