Moving To London: An Insider’s Guide

 (collaborative post)

If you’ve decided that the time has come to make a move to a new city, you might be considering upping sticks and moving to London. If you live in the UK, there’s no city that’s more exciting than the capital - there’s just so much on offer to see and do in London, not to mention the diverse range of opportunities that the city holds.

Of course, moving to a new city is always challenging, there’s a lot to think about and consider. It’s not easy choosing to up sticks and move to somewhere new, especially when it’s a big change and you’ve not spent much time in the city that you’re planning on moving to. However, the good news is that the best way to get to know any city is by living there, and after a few months in London you will feel like you’ve lived there for years.

That being said, that doesn’t make the process of moving to a new city any less daunting, does it? There’s so much to think about and consider. A big move comes with a lot that you need to take into account. To help make the process of moving a little easier, below are a few handy tips to take note of.

Be mindful about where you live

It’s no secret that accommodation in London is very expensive, or at least it can be. That’s why it’s so important that you are mindful about where in London you move to and where you live. Take the purpose of your move into account; say you’re moving to London to study, your best bet is to opt to look for student accommodation because this will be cheaper than regular accommodation. If you’re not moving to the city to study, look for accommodation that is in the area you want - and need - to be in, and that won’t break the bank. It might take time, but the right accommodation is out there.

Look for like-minded people

Moving somewhere new is always going to be scary, especially when you don’t know anyone. As soon as you move to the city, start looking for like-minded people to get to know. By hanging out with other Londoners you will learn how to make the most of the city far quicker. So it’s worth taking the time to look for some like-minded people to hang with. Whether it’s your housemates, friends from work, or people you’ve met on a night out, make an effort to get to know them.

Get a bike

If money is short or you’re not keen to have to rely on public transport, get yourself a bike. In a city like London, a bike - or a scooter - acts as a great way to get around. It gives you the independence that you need without having to rely on public transport.

There you have it, an insider’s guide to moving to London.
